On May 18, 2012 he was sworn in as Naperville's police chief. In addition to his $151,000 salary, Marshall has continued to receive his police pension that currently stands at $8,425 per month and until recently, contribute to IMRF."I think the definition within the statute is pretty plain and also the fact people all over the state go retire at one department and go to work as a chief in any number of other departments and it's fine," board member David Senneke said. The Naperville Police Pension Board then held two hearings on the matter in the fall, giving both the Department of Insurance and the city a chance to weigh in. The city argued Marshall should continue to receive his pension.The board debated in closed session Wednesday, then returned briefly to open session to take a vote. Senneke, Mike McNicholas, detective Don Bisch, and Naperville Finance Director Karen DeAngelis voted in favor of Marshall continuing to collect his police pension while Sgt. Lee Martin voted no."The city of Naperville is actually reaping the benefit of having somebody who is already familiar with the city and the police department," Senneke said after the meeting.Martin was not available for comment immediately after the meeting and could not be reached Thursday.Marshall said he is "pleased that my pension benefits that I have earned will continue.""I thank the pension board for their consideration in this matter," M <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> arshall said. <a href={url}>{keyword}</a> "And as I told my staff when this hearing first started no matter what the outcome I'm still the chief of police and I love my job."Although Marshall will continue to collect his police pension, IMRF has suspended his ability to continue counting years of service and contributing to that fund.
